About Our Church

We:

-believe that Jesus Christ teaches us that the way we treat one another is more important than the way we express our beliefs;

-believe that the journey of faith is a quest for meaning, not absolute certainty;

-believe that faith in Jesus Christ calls us to strive for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation, and bring hope to the least;

-believe that our faith entails a discipleship of conscientious resistance to wrong doing.

Text Box: The United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior.  It acknowledges as kindred in Christ all who share in this confession.  It looks to the Word of God in the scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the world.  It claims as its own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers.  It affirms the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God.  In accordance with the teaching of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, it recognizes two sacraments:  Baptism and the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.

Open and Affirming statement of the

Pleasant Hill Community Church (UCC)

We are an open church, affirming the dignity and worth of every person as created in the image of God. We welcome into our fellowship and membership persons of every race, language, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, economic circumstance, marital status, and faith background, and we invite all people to share and participate fully in the life and ministry of the Pleasant Hill Community Church (UCC).

We struggle against racism, sexism, ageism, chauvinism, homophobia, and all attitudes and acts of injustice, discrimination, violence, and hatred that work against peace, wholeness, and shalom.

We believe that Christ Jesus is our peace; that he has broken down dividing walls and hostilities between people and has created one new humanity (Ephesians 2:14-16). We believe that it is the mission of this church and of each individual member to be an instrument of God’s peace in the world.
