Who We Are and What We Believe
The Pleasant Hill Community Church is a congregation of the United Church of Christ witnessing to the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ. In 1987, in response to our call from Christ and the global injustices so evident in the world, PHCC declared itself a ‘Just-Peace Church.’ With this declaration we commit ourselves to a ministry conscious of, and acting upon, issues of social justice and peace on local, regional, national and international levels.
Related to issues of peace and justice, in 2003 PHCC declared itself an ‘Open and Affirming Church,’ committing ourselves to an inclusive ministry. We welcome all God’s children into our church membership regardless of race, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, marital status, or any other category of people historically discriminated against.
PHCC is also committed to environmental stewardship and protection of God’s creation. To this concern, in 2006 we declared ourselves a ‘Whole Earth Church’ and made stewardship of creation one of our priority missions.
As a ‘Global Mission Church’ we commit our time, talents and resources to reaching out on a global level to our brothers and sisters around the world. Part of this commitment includes our Sister Church relationship with Second Baptist Church in Santiago, Cuba, and our support of mission children in Zimbabwe and Haiti, among other projects.
